5. Galalith, Casein back
"Milkstone" was the name. The solid components of the milk, say fresh cheese are dried, milled, then mixed whith "formaldehyd", which alters the chemical structure of the material and forms a type of plastic. It can be coloured almost as good as celluloid. The main problem of galalithe: it absorbs water (or ink), then softens and looses shape. You may learn this by immersing a nice Conway Dinky for some hours into water.......

Not many pens were made from Galalithe though the material is most beautiful.

White Galalithe was used to build the white logos of pens, the Montblanc star e.g., in the twenties and thirties
