Glossar Letter A acetat (de: Celluloseacetat) (it: acetato di cellulosa) [de] : Celluloseacetat, schlechter Ersatz für Zelluloid ...Acrylic resin (de: Acryl / Plexiglas) (it: Acrilico) A modern thermoplastic with great clarity and durability used to make caps and barrels for many contemporary pens.
Adjustable nib (de: Verstellbare Feder) (it: Pennino regolabile) A Wahl nib first introduced on Dorics and later, on the Coronet line. The nib has a slide on top that adjusts degree of tine spread and hence, flexibility and line width.
Aerometric filler (de: Aerometric filler) (it: Aerometric filler) Introduced on the Parker 51 in 1949 as the Foto-fill. The barrel unscrews to reveal a sac surrounded bu a metal casing which is depressed by hand for filling. The name was quickly changed to aerometric. Similar filling systems were adopted by other manufacturers.
Aerometric filler Type of filling mechanism in which the bladder and a pressure bar are exposed and the filling is done by squeezing the bladder to cause a suction.
Ambering : celluoid (de: Verfärbung) (it: scolorazione) One of several terms used to describe the discoloration of pen parts, especially of celluloid and mainly due to the effects of ink and rubber. Celluloid ambers totally, say the discoloration is not only superficially but the entire material. Ambering : hard rubber (de: Verfärbung) (it: scolorazione) Hard rubber instead discolours due to outside influence, water and light induces part of the sulphur to appear on the outside, thus the pen turns from ebony black to olive green. This discoloration is only superficially and can partly be polished.
Arrow (de: Pfeilclip) (it: freccia) Parker's logo first appeared on the clip of the Golden Arrow, which was the forerunner of the Vacumatic. The arrow was used on most subsequent Parker clips and also on nibs and other parts.

Autograph (de: Autograph) (it: Autograph) Many Sheaffer models were made with a wide cap band, often in 14k, for owner's to engrave names. Each of these were known as autographs within their lines.
